For its third XL Open Invitation exhibition, the MAH welcomes artist Ugo Rondinone (1964-) as he takes over its main building and collection to create a unique aesthetic experience.

How is a place, an experience, a way of seeing radically reinvented ? That is the question Ugo Rondinone explores in this exhibition on view from January 26 to June 18, 2023. For the third annual Open Invitation, the artist has taken over the museum’s building and collection to create a web of unexpected connections and echoes. Staging his own work in conversation with Ferdinand Hodler and Félix Vallotton in particular, all while responding to the museum’s architecture, he presents a journey through appearances and takes us to the other side of the looking glass. This is an intimate, night-time voyage into the psychology of the human condition filled with contrasts. the sun and the moon, Rondinone’s emblematic and dramatic sculptures, punctuate the trajectory and guide visitors in an exploration of the great matters of our relationship to the world : love, desire, death and nature call to each other and clash in a wide-ranging and surprising orchestration.

Comment réinventer radicalement un lieu, une expérience, un regard ? C’est la question qu’explore Ugo Rondinone avec cette exposition présentée du 26 janvier au 18 juin 2023. Dans le cadre de cette troisième Carte blanche, l’artiste s’est en effet emparé du bâtiment et de la collection du musée pour créer un système d’échos et de correspondances inédits. Faisant dialoguer ses propres créations avec notamment celles de Ferdinand Hodler et Félix Vallotton, prenant en compte l’architecture du musée, il nous propose une traversée des apparences qui nous emmène de l’autre côté du miroir, un voyage nocturne et intime dans la psychologie de la condition humaine, ainsi qu’un parcours tout en contraste. the sun et the moon, sculptures spectaculaires et emblématiques du travail de Rondinone, marquent le trajet et guident ainsi le visiteur et la visiteuse dans une exploration des grandes lignes de notre rapport au monde : l’amour, le désir, la mort et la nature se répondent et s’opposent, au fil d’une orchestration plurielle et surprenante.
