Whales in literature: between myth and ketology

Festival Histoire et Cité
Samedi 5 avril, 11h30
Editions La Braconnière

Majestic and elusive creatures, whales have inhabited the human imagination for centuries. From Leviathan to Moby Dick, via Rabelais' Physetère, these giants of the seas haunt a literature that attempts to tame them. Between myth and science, the whale has undergone a thousand metamorphoses: the unknown, terrifying monster is today the figurehead of ecology and pacifism. The abundance of publications devoted to whales in recent times is cause for concern.
