As part of BiblioWeekend 2024, a weekend devoted to libraries throughout Switzerland, the theme of which is "Food for thought", we are taking a look at Geneva's Eritrean community. The library will be exceptionally open this Sunday from 11am to 6pm, and Eritrean coffee will be served continuously to visitors, as well as flash visits to the Jebena showcase in the permanent exhibition.

As part of the day's activities, the film Semret, by Caterina Mona, will be screened in the Museum Auditorium at 4pm.

Semret lives with her teenage daughter in a small flat in Zurich, works in a hospital and, in the evenings, studies to become a midwife. The young mother does everything she can to ensure that her daughter Joe has a better life than the one she left behind in Eritrea. When Joe begins to press for more information about her origins, Semret is confronted with her past, and the sheltered life she has built for herself in Switzerland threatens to disintegrate.
Semret's story is that of many women fleeing their past in search of a better future for themselves and their families. With this social drama that leaves room for hope, Ticino director Caterina Mona manages to tackle the themes of migration and integration in a particularly sensitive way. Presented in Locarno's Piazza Grande and produced by Michela Pini, "Semret" is a disarmingly honest film.
