Beyond books
This international symposium examines the crucial educational role that scientific instruments have played in library collections over the centuries.

To date, few studies have examined the link between the realm of book knowledge and instruments, despite this being a central theme from a historical, scientific, and heritage perspective. This event aims to fill this gap and will be the first ever organized on this theme. It will bring together a wide range of specialists from Europe and the United States, who will examine the relationship between libraries and scientific instruments using an interdisciplinary and synchronic approach in the ideal setting of the Museum of the History of Science.
With the participation of Dr. Rossella Baldi (Neuchâtel), Dr. Samuel Gessner (Lisbon), and Prof. Jérôme Baudry (EPFL).

Ce colloque international interroge le rôle didactique capital que les instruments scientifiques ont joué au sein des collections des bibliothèques à travers les siècles.

Peu d’études se sont jusqu’à présent penchées sur le lien entre espace du savoir livresque et instruments, thématique pourtant centrale dans une perspective historique, scientifique et patrimoniale. Cette manifestation souhaite combler cette lacune et sera donc la première jamais organisée sur ce thème. Elle réunira une riche palette de spécialistes provenant d’Europe et des États-Unis, qui questionneront la relation entre bibliothèques et instrumentation scientifique en adoptant une approche interdisciplinaire et synchronique dans le cadre idéal du Musée d’histoire des sciences.
