"In the footsteps of an Australian soldier" by the Sir John Monash Center
A workshop for the whole family that tells the story of Australian soldier Valentine Rochfort who served on the Western Front. Children examine, touch and carry some of his objects.

During this workshop, a member of the Sir John Monash Centre team encourages families to experience Private Valentine Rochfort’s experience on the Western Front by inviting them to examine, handle and carry certain items from his personal suitcase. This workshop will give children a better understanding of Valentine’s life on the Western Front and the living conditions of soldiers in the trenches so far from Australia.
On Saturday, May 4, the Sir John Monash Centre comes to meet you at the Museum of the Battle of Fromelles. On this occasion, a mediator will share Australia’s history on the Western Front in two events:
- A family workshop to discover the life of an Australian soldier during the First World War
- A presentation for the greatest of Australian history on the Western Front and the Australian Memory Trail sites;
