The EHESP Forum transforms the remains of an old laboratory into a new collective space for students. The initial plan was to build a new building after demolition. Rather than starting from a blank page, we first sought to identify the elements that can be preserved, reused and transformed.
Part of the existing building is removed in order to open up the campus and restore its connection with the landscape. The ground floor, concrete posts, foundations and networks are preserved. The existing structure becomes a driving force of the project: the frame of the posts defines the spans, rhythm and organization of the new Forum, while the structure is reinforced to support the light extension above.
