As part of the 10 years of the Maison de la Pierre, retrace the journey of stone in Creil, from the hillsides to Place Carnot.
Did you know that Creil owes its name to this building material? The city still bears traces of its extraction in the landscape but also in the names of its streets and neighborhoods: Cavée de Senlis, cavée de Paris, rue des pierres, rue des tuffs, passage of the quarries... From antiquity to the present day, you will discover how men extracted, transported and used the stone of the south of the Oise which was used to build the Haussmannian Paris! Departing from the Tourist Office, we will stroll together through the streets of the city center to discover the ancient tuffs, historical monuments and old stone houses and "cruise ship" style buildings from the post-World War II reconstruction. It will also be an opportunity to discover how the stone of the south of the Oise is used today in building sites with high environmental value.
