On the occasion of the release of his new book «Integrating Change: The Sustainable Bet(s) of the Olympic Games», Roberto D'Arienzo will be pleased to present and exchange.
The speaker Roberto d'Arienzo is an architect-urbanist, Doctor of Architecture at the Universities Paris 8 in France and Federico II in Italy, qualified by the CNU and the CNECEA to the functions of Lecturer, researcher-member at the Gerphau laboratory (EA 7486), Research Officer, Innovation Division, Systra.
His research focuses on the notions of «metabolism» and «life cycles», which he questions from cases of exemplary studies such as the garbage crisis in Naples, the organization of the Olympic Games in Paris, the emergence in France of the movement Cradle to Cradle. They benefited from the support of the National Association for Research and Technology, the Patronage for Research in Architecture and Landscape of the Caisse des Dépôts et Consignations, as well as the National Book Center.

At a time of the climate emergency we experience on a daily basis, and a revision of our ways of thinking, of building, of transforming our living environments, Paris is preparing, 100 years after having been the second privileged host (1900, 1924), to host the 2024 Olympic Games in the light of sustainability. The book looks at three application files submitted in 1992, 2008 and 2012, and not selected for the benefit of the cities of Barcelona, Beijing and London, in search of the premises of a development thinking that seems to glimpse in the factor of time and in the mutations it coats, an indispensable project lever. The Olympic Games, which require the upstream consideration, and for an accelerated time, of the «post-OJ», and thus of the «programmed recycling» of the Villages in perennial neighborhoods, appear as valuable experimental sites.
