Located in the Hautes Corbières massif, the Château de Bouisse has undergone several stages of construction since the 13th century. The medieval castle tower is completed by a main building at the end of the Renaissance. In the seventeenth century, the building was given wings and became defensible on all sides - the castle indeed participated in the defense of the French borders.
Its current appearance is that of that time. It is also the 17th century that marks the interior of the seigneurial residence: witness its Louis XIII staircase and its two monumental fireplaces with painted decoration built between 1650 and 1660\. Divided into several apartments and sold to different owners from 1818, the castle then became a building for agricultural use. It was in 1951 that its rebirth began thanks to the writer René Nelli and his wife Suzanne Ramon-Nelli who bought all the parts from six different owners in a few years.
