The cathedral of Bayeux was consecrated in 1077 by Bishop Odo of Conteville in the presence of his brother, William the Conqueror. It is to decorate the nave of the cathedral that Odo had the famous Bayeux Tapestry embroidered, which tells the story of the conquest of England in 1066 by William, Duke of Normandy. Begun in the Romanesque period, the cathedral of Bayeux is generally a Gothic church. As its construction extends from the 12th to the 15th century, we find the different styles of this art: early Gothic, radiant Gothic and flamboyant Gothic. During its construction it was remodeled and enlarged. The largest part of the construction is concentrated in the years 1230-1270\. That is why it presents a rather great unity of style: a Gothic building from the 13th century enveloping the primitive Romanesque structure.
