Tour Jean Sans Peur

The Jean Sans Peur tower is the only intact witness of the great medieval palace of the Dukes of Burgundy, formerly the Artois hotel. Property of the City of Paris, the monument was opened in 1999 by the association of friends of the tower Jean without fear with the support of academics. Symbol of the seizure of power over King Charles VI in 1409, it contains a splendid staircase finished by a carved vault unique in France. Accessible on its five levels up to the framework, it also has two high rooms overlooking the Hotel de Bourgogne, serving as a private meeting place. Very bright, each is equipped with pit latrines, among the oldest in Paris. Installed on the back of fireplaces and equipped with an aeration duct, they demonstrate great comfort. The reconstitutions undertaken since 2003 in each of the rooms allow to evoke the original aspect, completing the permanent visit path and the temporary exhibitions on medieval daily life.
