The Syndicat Mixte de l'Eau et de l'Assainissement de l'Ariège (SMDEA) currently operates a water intake in the Ariège river for its drinking water needs in the town of Pamiers. This collected water is transported to the Tour du Crieu drinking water production plant. The vast majority of the Lower Ariège Valley and Hers Vif sector is served with drinking water from the Tour-du-Crieu production plant. This plant has been producing 700 m³/h since 2011\. A thorough physical and chemical treatment including refining and disinfection makes it possible to produce water in accordance with the regulations (pre-ozonation, coagulation/ flocculation, settling, filtration, ozonation, remineralization, charcoal filter, disinfection).
