Guided tour retracing the evolution of the representation of icons
The term «icon», originally referring to an image venerated by the Orthodox Church, has long passed from the religious sphere to the secular world: some historical figures have been able to reach the rank of icons, before the world of entertainment took their place in the pantheon of images.
But how to define an icon? What connects Christ to Che, Joan of Arc to Marilyn Monroe, Napoleon to Diego Maradona? How does one become an icon?
Through a selection of 150 pieces gathering popular images, photographs, magazines and illustrated newspapers and other products, this exhibition retraces the evolution of the representation of icons through the ages under the prism of great figures, religious, military, artistic or sporting.
Around this exhibition, the museum team welcomes you all weekend with free admission.
On the program: guided tours and typographic workshops led by Papier Gachette (Strasbourg).
