Château du Haut-Koenigsbourg
Château du Haut-Koenigsbourg, 67600 Orschwiller
The castle of Haut-Koenigsbourg is rich of a history of near the 9th century. Built in the 12th century, it knows its apogee in the 15th century, becoming a great fortress with a modern defensive system. It is nevertheless severely damaged in the 17th century, during the Thirty Years War, and is abandoned. At the beginning of the 20th century, which became the property of the German emperor William II, it was completely restored according to the plans of the 15th century. Today, it offers a remarkable vision of an Alsatian mountain fortress, as it could possibly have existed in the fifteenth century. A medieval garden is located outside, along the ramparts (open access from May to October).
