The Comité de Quartier Cœur de Ville is back this year to present "the little stories of our streets". This walking tour, guided or accompanied by the famous booklet, will be ideal to discover the history of the ancient streets of Cusset. Between historical monuments, peculiarities or heritage anecdotes and winding streets, this walking tour will offer a glimpse of the historic center of yesterday and the heart of today’s city. More specifically, this walk will reveal the names of the streets that, for some, had to face a change of name during history.
On the occasion of this celebration of heritage, the members of the Comité de Quartier Cœur de Ville will propose to guide the participants in their discovery.
Course of 1h30 approximately - 2.5 km Appointment at the Prisoner Tower - Booklet to be removed on site

The last vestiges of the fortifications erected at the end of the 15th century, commissioned by Louis XI, the Prisoner Tower and the Underground offer a real dive into the medieval history of Cusset and a place of artistic and playful exploration of the 21st century.
Built between 1476 and 1483 by the architect Vauzy de Saint-Martin, the fortifications of Cusset were entirely surrounded by a vast ditch fed by the river "Sichon". Four gates allowed access to the city, equipped with drawbridges and sleeping bridges and five artillery towers to the many shooting areas (loopholes and gunboats) composed the elements of these fortifications. From the 17th century, the walls, which had become useless, were demolished except for the Notre-Dame Tower, which had been transformed into a prison since the 16th century (which explains its current name of Prisoner Tower). In parallel to the dismantling, the ditches are also filled, so that the low galleries of the doors that were flush with the water
