Exhibition "REVEALING THE EARTH/ STORIES OF CERAMICS" Daphne Corregan and Gilles Suffren
Maintaining a singular history with Provencal ceramics, the Musée du Vieil Aix and the Tuilerie Bossy-Métiers d'art Association wanted to join forces to honor contemporary creation. Daphne Corregan and Gilles Suffren are the figureheads of this project: their rich forty-year career is the subject of a carte blanche retrospective at the Musée du Vieil Aix, while their heritage is questioned at the Tuilerie Bossy (Gardanne), through a dialogue with the works of the young ceramicists in training in Limoges, who pay tribute to them. A land of ceramic creation, Provence has housed many artists and artisans who have distinguished themselves in this art during the twentieth century. Several exhibitions have highlighted this flowering of artistic productions, whether it is «10 céramistes aixois» produced at the Granet Museum (1994) or more recently «L'atelier Buffile. 70 Years of Ceramics in Aix” from the Musée du Vieil Aix and the Pavillon de Vendôme (2017). Sign of the renewal of interest in ceramics and testimony of its newfound prosperity, the Aix Art School has reopened a ceramics course for amateurs recently. It was there that the pair of ceramists Daphne Corregan and Gilles Suffrren formed, in the lap of the teaching given by Jean Biagini in the 1970s. An exhibition, two places, to explore stories of earth(s), from conception to creative gesture, from the transmission of know-how to that of works for future generations.
