Exhibition "COSÌ, Così fan tutte" - Festival d'Aix 1948-2023
In 1948, Gabriel Dussurget and his friend Henri Lambert responded to the invitation of Countess Lily Pastré, who wanted to organize a music festival in Marseille. Their focus will finally be on the court of the former palace of the Archbishopric, in Aix-en-Provence. With Così fan tutte by Mozart, the first edition of the "Mozart Festival", which will become the International Festival of Lyric Art, opens in 1948 on an improvised stage. After the inauguration of the Théâtre de l'Archevêché the following year, ten productions will succeed each other to the present day, some of which have been performed many times. On the occasion of the event’s 75th anniversary, sets, costumes, models and stage photos from the Fonds du Festival International d'art lyrique d'Aix-en-Provence bring these shows and the great creators to light, performers and directors who have distinguished themselves there. In the background of the history of these performances is also revealed, through the texts of prestigious musicologists and musical critics from the season programs, the evolution of our view of a work long unloved whose multiple interpretations do not exhaust the mystery.
