Exceptional presence of the bookbinders of the Atelier "Au livre ouvert" for a demonstration of their know-how (in the reading room).
The art binding workshop «Au livre ouvert» is located in Aubagne. By volunteering at national and local events, the bookbinders of the Atelier wish to share their passion and traditional know-how as well as raise awareness of the preservation of the heritage of books and its transmission.
Come and discover this ancestral profession that requires knowledge and mastery of ancient techniques, coupled with a real artistic sensitivity.
Saturday, September 16, 2023 only from 10 am to 6 pm. All public. Free, without prior registration.

The Departmental Archives of the Bouches-du-Rhône, the collective memory of the department:
Created during the French Revolution and placed today under the double supervision of the State and the Department, the Departmental Archives were installed in 2006 in the heart of the Euroméditerranée perimeter, in the new building of the Departmental Archives and Library (ABD Gaston Defferre) built by the Marseille architectural firm Vezzoni-Laporte. A huge hull called the pebble houses the written memory of the department and its inhabitants, more than 65 linear kilometres of documents of which the oldest dates back to the year 814\. Charters of the Middle Ages, registers of notaries, cadastral maps, administrative documents, maps, posters, letters, photographs, cd-rom are kept and communicated to the public in the reading room.
