"La Canebière, a street like no other"
What is the most famous street in Marseille? The Canebière of course! But did you know that it celebrated its 90th anniversary in 2017 while the city is more than 2600 years old?
Strange? Not so much when we know that Marseille remained confined for almost 2000 years to the Panier district.
We propose you to understand how this axis was built in three successive stages from 1660 (under the impulse of Louis XIV ) until 1927. Its history is linked to that of Marseille, particularly to that of its flourishing maritime trade in the 19th and early 20th centuries.
