Free visit of the botanical garden of the Faculty of Health of Angers

Free from 10 am to 1 pm and from 2 pm to 6 pm.
A real institution dating back to 1890, this study garden preserves 2000 plant species. In the center a garden divided into 32 beds where the plants are classified by botanical families. A greenhouse houses tropical plants such as lemongrass, sensitive or carnivorous plants. The arboretum boasts a sassafras, a 150-year-old araucaria, a giant sequoia 42 m high or a female ginkgo. In terrase, the thematic garden presents massifs of plants grouped according to their therapeutic virtues. The visit will end in the seed farm where the species are conceived in more than 1600 seed jars.

After a presentation of the history of the Botanical Garden, your guide will make you discover the medicinal plants and many other remarkable plants among the 2000 species present. It will also accompany you in the arboretum and the tropical greenhouse. The visit will end with the seed plant where 1600 jars of seeds are stored in the garden.
Guided (or free) tour of the botanical garden: Botanical school, medicinal plants, an arboretum, a tropical greenhouse, a seed plant. 2000 plant species are present on a garden of 8000 m².
The garden is divided into three areas:
- A historic garden called a "botanical school": the plants are arranged around a pool of water in 32 beds according to the classification of Bentham & Hooker (19th century). The species are classified by family, from the simplest (Poaceae) to the most advanced (Asteraceae). Each species, comprising several genera and several varieties, has a zinc label engraved in Latin, thus retaining the style of the time of its crea
