Four towers, high walls pierced with gunboats, crowns of machicolations, the castle of Sillé-le-Guillaume is a real medieval fortress.
Several times besieged during the Hundred Years War, the castle of Sillé-le-Guillaume passed into the hands of the families of Beauvau, Cossé-Brissac but also of the princess of Conti illegitimate daughter of Louis XVI and Mademoiselle de la Vallière.
Medieval fortress rebuilt in the second half of the fifteenth century, pleasure house in the seventeenth century, prison during the French Revolution, the castle had several lives! Napoleon donated it to the commune which used it as town hall and college then high school until 1971.
