free visit castle of Haut Éclair
Dating from the late sixteenth century, the castle of Haut Eclair was built, according to some hypotheses, on the site of an old medieval building.
During the Revolution, Haut Eclair is the scene of chouannerie actions led by the girls of Sallet who were considered the «heroines and amazons of the former chouannerie».
At the end of the 19th century, the castle was sold to Georges Delante, mayor of the town, who offered the town hall the opportunity to buy it at a favorable price to install the public school for girls, which would later be transformed into a nursery school.
In 2004, following the transfer of the school, the Communauté de Communes took over the management of the site. Work is then undertaken to rehabilitate the site. The first phase of the work was completed in 2009 allowing the castle to welcome again many people and return to the splendour of the festivities of yesteryear during sumptuous receptions.
Recently, the last phase of work made it possible to restore the dovecote. Of circular shape, it shelters 2 levels. It bears the inscription 1611 on the door. The first level served as a guard room. Pierced with murderers, it was a place of surveillance and refuge. Upstairs, you can see 800 boulins,
