The Porte Saint-Michel is the most emblematic historical monument of the medieval city of Guérande. Loaded with more than 6 centuries of history, it was in turn Logis-Châtelet at the time of the Dukes of Brittany and the Kings of France, prison at the Revolution, Town Hall from 1815 to 1954 and museum from 1928\. Its monumental architecture still bears witness to the prestige and power of the city in the Middle Ages. In the course of history, it was the seat of political power and quickly became a symbol of the city’s identity. Listed as a historical monument since 1889, it is the scene of the greatest events in Guérandais.
