Château de mortiercrolles
Mortiercrolles, 53400 Saint-Quentin-les-Anges
This castle was built between 1496 and 1499 by Pierre de Rohan, Marshal of Gié. Like the Motte-Glain, raised by the same character, in the same troubled period following the Hundred Years War, the castle of Mortier Crolles presents the double character of a defensive site and a residence of pleasure: the enclosure with wide moats and towers, the corners retain its imposing castle, in alternating apparatus of brick and white stone; the main building is still of very gothic character (prismatic mouldings of the windows, very ornate dormers) although the very regular and symmetrical structure of the facade, on either side of an amazing entrance porch, which is already very advanced.
