Dr Ecorchard (1809-1882) had the extensions of the Jardin des Plantes drawn up in the early 19th century by botanist Alexandre Hectot. In the form of a landscaped park, the new garden, inaugurated in 1860, is part of the tradition of the 19th century botanical garden, a veritable conservatory of regional or exotic plants.
