Seigneury dating back to the 11th century beginning of the 13th century, increase of the castle by Philippe de La Flocellière or Geoffroy II, c. 1284 - 14th century. La Flocellière passes into the hands of the Surgères. Enlargement of the dungeon late 14th century. During the wars of religion, the castle was taken by the troops of the Duke of Mercoeur and reinforced defences. In 1616, Jacques de Maillé-Brézé obtained the erection of the land as a marquisate. During the Vendée Wars, the castle was captured and burned like the village by the infernal columns. In 1881-1882, the Baron Alquier had the castle restored and transformed by the architect Arsène Charrier. Important castral set with courtines, lices, dry ditches, platform with mistress-tower crowned by a machicolation. Modern castle between two towers of the old castle, connected by a neo-gothic gallery to the keep.
