The History Gallery mainly retraces the Vendée Wars which, from 1793 to 1796, pitted the Catholic and Royal armies against the Republican forces. Particularly stands out the Room of the Vandean Generals. The various victories, the defeat of Cholet (17 October 1793) then the Virée de Galerne, and later, the uprisings of 1815, and the odyssey of the Duchess of Berry are evoked by paintings, weapons, documents, flags. The art gallery offers a choice of works from the 18th and 19th centuries, illustrating mythological, historical, religious themes, landscape or portrait. 20th-century painting offers a panorama of geometric abstraction, from Cubism to the present day, with works that illustrate one of the major artistic trends of our time.
