Visit the Musée de la Vannerie et de l'Artisanat in the heart of Vallabrègues. Located on the banks of the Rhône, in the Gard, Vallabrègues is one of the last Provençal villages of basket makers.
Among the timeless materials that nature offers us, I ask: wicker! Placed in the expert hands of creative humans, these long stems that grow feet in the Rhone turn into containers that are both practical, original and pretty, which spoils nothing.
And this is not new. The Vannerie Museum, in Vallabrègues, with its procession of small and large objects often unusual, but still wicker. Created in 1994 by enthusiasts, the museum has been working ever since to find and display bananas and suitcases, and to keep alive the memory of a craft that is back to fashion.
