À propos du lieu

Jardin médiéval d'Uzès
Impasse Port Royal, 30700 Uzès
  • Gard
  • Occitanie
Located in the heart of the protected area of Uzès, the botanical, historical and artistic site is a real treasure. It has two medieval towers, ancient cells and a chapel decorated with graffiti of prisoners, as well as fascinating paintings. This garden, created in 1995, is inspired by medieval times and presents itself as a living herbarium. Within it, no less than 450 varieties of plants coexist, offering an illustration of the multiple uses that were made of plants in the Middle Ages. Plants have ambivalent virtues, but thanks to informative labels, it is possible to discover and differentiate them. In this garden, nature does not always care about the established order; thus, some «weeds» mingle with the carefully maintained plants. In addition, it hosts many insects, creating a dynamic and living ecosystem.
