Before being the seat of a seneschal administering the royal possessions in the South, the fortress of Beaucaire was first the residence of the counts of Toulouse. Having suffered many destructive assaults, such as the siege of 1216, a landmark episode of the Albigensian crusade, the fortress still delivers beautiful vestiges witnesses of its distant and glorious past.
