École Montolivet
5 rue de montolivet, 30400 Villeneuve-lez-Avignon
This school group was built in 1935 by the Deshommes municipality on the old gardens of the Montanègues hotel, bought at the hospice. The imposing Art Deco building, built by Nîmes architect Paul Chabert, was at the forefront of advances in hygiene and comfort. It provided a response to the increase in population and the precarious situation of the communal schools hitherto distributed in several premises rented to individuals. Symbol of modernity, the building was also a weapon in the quarrel between public and private schools, which is why it is higher than the church bell tower!
