Two ancient harrows, a medieval one, a straight staircase and a spiral staircase, an August inscription and 20th century graffiti: discover in a new light the monumental door of Nemausus served by the via Domitia. What traces have his stones kept of his successive functions? It served in turn as a city gate, a fortified castle, a wing of a Dominican convent, and even as a stable for the gendarmerie. Long forgotten, it has become a historical monument, surrounded by scattered blocks and several walls, installed in a square under the eye of a statue of Augustus. It tells 2000 years of history of Nimes. Come and take a guided tour of the Auguste Gate led by a delegate of the SNRS (National Service of Research and Sites).
