Discover the program of the 40th European Heritage Days in Aubais: Opening ceremony «by cutting the ribbon» by the Marquis, in front of the castle, Saturday at 14:00.
During the weekend, a very rich program adapted to adults and young people, will discover or rediscover the riches of the village of Aubais.
Many activities will be offered by the Municipality, the Association of Friends of Saint Nazaire or the Compagnie des Tréteaux du château (Historical Fresco theatricalized on Saturday at 20:30) and will compose a cultural and entertaining program.
The Aubais Heritage Association will host, Saturday from 2pm to 6pm and Sunday from 10am to 6pm, a program consisting of exhibitions, conferences, guided tours, a parade of costumed characters accompanied by musicians, old games and a riddle hunt, video projections, etc.. It will be present at the castle, where a new room has been opened and staged «the kitchen», in the vaulted rooms as well as at the Maison des Patrimoines.

The town of Aubais already had a first castle in the thirteenth century. Its round corner tower was integrated into the composition during the reconstruction of the building between 1680 and 1685\. From that date, the work was continued by an architect from Nîmes according to the plans of an engineer of the king. The exceptional monumental staircase is his work. Occupying an entire pavilion, its breadth and the care taken in its realization have aroused the praise of his contemporaries, especially of Vauban himself. The castle has an austere and monumental exterior architecture, without frills, unlike its more richly worked central part as evidenced by the Gallo-Roman inspired motifs.
