During the European Heritage Days, we invite you to participate in various activities around the temple of Calvisson. You will have the opportunity to visit the temple freely, as well as enjoy guided and commented tours of the temple and the nearby Place Jean Cavalier.
The theme of these visits will be the history of Protestantism and religious conflicts in the time of the Camisards.
You will also discover the history of the various temples that followed one another in Calvisson, as well as the architecture of the current temple.

Temple de Calvisson

Built between 1818 and 1821, in the neoclassical style, this temple was built on the site of the old temple which had been destroyed following the revocation of the Edict of Nantes in 1685\. The plans were made, and the construction led by Charles-Etienne Durand architect and engineer of Bridges and Roads in Nîmes, who also worked for 3 other Gardois temples of Vauvert and Bernis and Beauvoisin, for the Palace of Justice of Nîmes, as well as many of the department’s laundries. Very massive, the temple imposes by its height especially seen from the street Pradonne. Two of its facades have been restored in their original presentation, highlighting the aesthetics of the stone.
