The cemetery, one of the few private cemeteries in France, is included in the additional inventory of the Buildings of France. His first burial was in 1782. There is a «sacristy» of the Desert, a testimony of the time when the Reformed cult was clandestine, as well as some tombs of prominent figures in the history of Nimes.

The cemetery is built on old(former) plots of land of vineyards(vines) and of olive trees, the first funeral took place in 1782, date which the Protestantism was forbidden in France. Begun(Undertaken) from 1822, the landscaping presents a large unit(great unity) and calls to serenity: paths of acacias, of serviceberry trees and of cypress. Today, there are about 6 000 graves among which remarkable funerary monuments, and those of many local personalities.
