The secrets of builders in the art of medieval war: immerse yourself in the heart of history during the European Heritage Days
Beyond the idea of a frozen museum, the castle of Castelnaud wishes to offer the general public a real discovery of its collections and themes dedicated to it: the art of war in the Middle Ages!
Visitors eager for anecdotes and immersive stories will be delighted by this themed tour entitled «Builders of castles and war machines». During this tour, they will have the opportunity to experience some tools and techniques of medieval construction, and will also be able to attend a trebuchet shooting, thanks to a machine specially designed for educational demonstrations. This imposing siege machine, capable of throwing balls of 100 kg at a distance of 200 meters, was used to shake the thickest walls!
Another facet of castle seats is also highlighted during these days: art and the way to undermine. An animator, dressed in a costume faithfully recreated from the era of the Hundred Years War, will present his equipment and explain his essential know-how in wartime.
This interactive animation, entitled: «Face to Face with a soldier-pioneer of the Hundred Years War», will allow visitors to learn more about the ingenious military thought of the Middle Ages and to discover the multiple skills of the men of this time, far from the clichés of rustic craftsmen or bloodthirsty warriors.
