Guided tours of a former hospital and the contemporary archives centre
Take a guided tour of the department hotel. Former general hospital founded by Louis XIV at the end of the seventeenth century, this place has successively become a prison, a begging depot and finally a hospital dedicated to Saint Jacques, which saw the birth of many lot-et-garonnais. Since the 1990s, it has hosted the institutions of the departmental council of Lot-et-Garonne.
You will visit the courtyard of honor where stands a magnificent cedar of Lebanon, the former morgues or the old chapel, converted into a hemicycle where decisions are made that govern the life of the department.
Between 18:30 and 18:45, there will be a heritage aperitif centered on the history and heritage of the Lot-et-Garonne until 20:00.
The contemporary archives of the hotel of the department, located in the former maternity hospital of the hospital Saint-Jacques open their doors. This centre, which preserves the archives from the 1940s to the present, will be presented to you by the archivists. They will show you original documents, as well as methods of conservation.
