850 Jahre Geschichte... Eine lebendige Kathedrale enthüllt! Die Kathedrale Saint-Jean (Historisches Denkmal von 1840) wurde im 13. und 14. Jahrhundert nach dem Vorbild der großen gotischen Kathedralen Nordfrankreichs erbaut. Die Kathedrale wurde größtenteils von den Hugenotten (1577-1578) verwüstet, aber die Portale, die das schönste Beispiel der gotischen Bildhauerkunst der Gironde sind, wurden verschont. Das zentrale Portal ist dem Jüngsten Gericht und der Geschichte des hl. Johannes des Täufers gewidmet; die Seitenportale sind der Jungfrau Maria und dem hl. Petrus gewidmet. Das Innere des Gebäudes, von großer Nüchternheit, ist bemerkenswert durch die Aussicht auf das schmale und lange Kirchenschiff. Die Kathedrale wurde im Rahmen der Jakobswege (1998) zum UNESCO-Weltkulturerbe erklärt.

850 years of history... A living cathedral unveiled! The Cathedral of Saint John (a historical monument inscribed on the 1840 list) was built in the 13th and 14th centuries on the model of the great Gothic cathedrals of northern France. The cathedral was largely devastated by the Huguenots (1577-1578), but the portals, which are the most beautiful example of Gothic statuary in the Gironde, were spared. The central portal is dedicated to the Last Judgment and the history of Saint John the Baptist; the lateral portals are dedicated to the Virgin and Saint Peter. The interior of the building, very sober, is remarkable for the perspective of the narrow and long nave. The cathedral is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, as part of the Santiago de Compostela Road (1998).

850 anni di storia... Una cattedrale vivente svelata! La cattedrale di San Giovanni (Monumento storico iscritto nella lista del 1840) è costruita nel XIII e XIV secolo sul modello delle grandi cattedrali gotiche del nord della Francia. La cattedrale è stata devastata in gran parte dagli ugonotti (1577-1578), ma i portali, che costituiscono il più bel esempio di statuaria gotica della Gironda, sono stati risparmiati. Il portale centrale è dedicato al Giudizio Universale e alla storia di San Giovanni Battista; i portali laterali sono dedicati alla Vergine e a San Pietro. L'interno dell'edificio, di grande sobrietà, è notevole per la prospettiva della navata stretta e lunga. La cattedrale è patrimonio mondiale dell'Unesco, a titolo dei Cammini di Santiago di Compostela (1998).

La cathédrale Saint-Jean (Monument historique inscrit sur la liste de 1840) est édifiée au XIIIe et XIVe siècles sur le modèle des grandes cathédrales gothiques du nord de la France.
La cathédrale a été dévastée en grande partie par les Huguenots (1577-1578), mais les portails, qui constituent le plus bel exemple de statuaire gothique de la Gironde, ont été épargnés. Le portail central est consacré au Jugement Dernier et à l’histoire de saint Jean-Baptiste ; les portails latéraux le sont à la Vierge et à saint Pierre. L’intérieur de l’édifice, d’une grande sobriété, est remarquable par la perspective de la nef étroite et longue.
La cathédrale est classée au patrimoine mondial de l'Unesco, au titre des chemins de Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle (1998).

La catedral de San Juan (monumento histórico inscrito en la lista de 1840) se construyó en los siglos XIII y XIV siguiendo el modelo de las grandes catedrales góticas del norte de Francia. La catedral fue devastada en gran parte por los hugonotes (1577-1578), pero los portales, que constituyen el mejor ejemplo de estatuaria gótica de la Gironda, se salvaron. El portal central está dedicado al Juicio Final y a la historia de san Juan Bautista; los portales laterales están dedicados a la Virgen y a san Pedro. El interior del edificio, de gran sobriedad, destaca por la perspectiva de la nave estrecha y larga. La catedral está declarada Patrimonio de la Humanidad por la Unesco, como parte de los Caminos de Santiago (1998).
