15th-16th century. Founded in 1115, the abbey expanded during the 13th century. Around 1370, the buildings were half-ruined and a restoration program began as early as 1422 before being interrupted by the Wars of Religion. The monastic complex then fell into the hands of a Huguenot chief who saved the monastery from destruction. Despite this, he suffered further destruction in the late 16th and early 17th centuries. In 1643, Cadouin rose again. During the Revolution, the property of the monastery was sold.
