European Heritage Days: Investigation of the Unknown of the Toulouse Route by Sébastien Sindeu
Discover the photographic exhibition and investigation of the «Inconnu de la Route de Toulouse» by Sébastien Sindeu, on an original idea by photographer Sébastien Sindeu, in partnership with the café de la route de Toulouse and the cities of Talence, Villenave d'Ornon and Bègles.
It all starts with an archive photo: that of a man on a postcard without a caption, taken at the beginning of the road from Toulouse, to Bordeaux, most likely barrier of Toulouse, a sunny day between 1922 and 1936.
Who is this man? And why make this picture a postcard? This is the mystery that the photographer Sébastien Sindeu tried to solve, with the help of the inhabitants, the intervention of the school public and the users of the café of the road of Toulouse, by going in search of this unknown.
Since 2019, the origin of the project and 2022 for the beginning of the investigation, it is above all a pretext to open a broader reflection: that of the history of the road to Toulouse and its neighborhoods.
Between the inhabitants who live there, the middle and high school students who walk the sidewalks in the early morning or simply the users who take every day this nerve artery of the Bordeaux metropolis, these are potential pieces of memory that disappear without being preserved. The objective is therefore, through this investigation, to preserve a collective memory of the living, a large contemporary family album, capable of questioning all the themes of the city of today: the question of mobility, the social link, the city and its uses...
A year later, this exhibition is an opportunity for photographer Sébastien Sindeu to present the collected work to the public.
