In addition to an exhibition, proposing a new discovery of the documents of Léon Bloy or in connection with this Perigordian writer preserved in his fonds, the Pierre Fanlac Media Library offers, as part of the European Heritage Days, a two-part visit:
- Presentation of the fund and enhancement of the acquisition in 2022 of an original manuscript by Léon Bloy.
- Exceptional presentation of the heritage store.
The “living heritage” theme of the 2023 European Heritage Days is an opportunity to highlight the conservation work carried out by the teams of the Pierre Fanlac Media Library, which work to enrich and preserve the library’s heritage holdings.
Léon Bloy (1846-1917) is undoubtedly the author best represented in the heritage collections of the Pierre Fanlac Library. The city of Périgueux, the writer’s hometown, has all the legitimacy to keep a reference collection of this late 19th century author, whose voice is so unique. For more than forty years, the municipal library has been working to acquire documents to understand Léon Bloy’s literary activity and its reception to the present day. Thus, one can find there today almost all the original editions of Bloy’s works, including a number of rare or bibliophilic copies, provided with consignments to relatives, friends and relatives; several original manuscripts of great interest; correspondence, photographs, personal notebooks; and a whole range of documents and reviews of studies on Bloy and posthumous archives. This set was completed by the acquisition in 2022 of a prestigious manuscript, that of the magazine «Le Pa», thanks to the financial support of the book and reading service.
