The Jean-Jacques Henner National Museum is located in the former home of the painter and decorator Guillaume Dubufe (1853-1909). Its architecture is typical of the mansions of the Plaine Monceau of the late nineteenth century. It therefore presents the double interest of being both a painting museum dedicated to a great artist, and by its architecture and history, the testimony of a forgotten part of the history of Paris. The visitor is invited to discover the fascinating and intimate world of Jean-Jacques Henner (1829-1905) while tasting the charm of an emblematic place. By offering a rich and eclectic program promoting young companies, and by welcoming each year an artist in residence, this museum-house of artists with three workshops is also part of a dynamic perpetuating the tradition of a place dedicated to the arts and creation.
The visitor can also discover the exhibition-dossier "Homage to the founders. Jules Henner and Marie Henner-Dujardin" who highlights this couple of donors to the origins of the museum.

À propos du lieu

Located in the district of the plain Monceau, the mansion which houses today the museum dedicated to the painter Jean-Jacques Henner (1829-1905) is originally the residence and workshop of Guillaume Dubufe (1853-1909). The building is remarkable for its decorations and architectural elements borrowed from different eras and civilizations. The collections of the museum trace, from his native Alsace to Paris where Jean-Jacques Henner made career, passing by the Villa Medici where he stayed after obtaining the Grand Prix de Rome de Peinture, the itinerary of an artist considered at the beginning of the twentieth century as one of the most important of his time.
