Inaugurated by André Malraux in the Hôtel de Guénégaud (a 17th-century historical monument built by François Mansart) on 21 February 1967, the Musée de la Chasse et de la Nature was extended in 2007 to its neighbour, the Hôtel de Mongelas (18th century). Thanks to this renovation and extension, the museum «exposes» the relationship between man and animal through the ages (from Antiquity to the present day) and relies on the exceptional collections of old, modern and contemporary united by the founders and constantly increased for nearly half a century. Private museum, it benefits from the appellation «Musée de France» granted by the Ministry of Culture. In the heart of the Marais, the Museum of Hunting and Nature invites the artist and photographer Vincent Fournier. The exhibition Uchronie talks about our relationship to nature and technology in an alternative version of the story, as it could have happened. What if animals were gifted with poetry? What if we walked Mars while staying on Earth? In a journey bringing together photographs, sculptures, video… the exhibition takes us on a journey beyond reality around two themes: the space adventure and the reinvention of the living. Available until September 17. Paying www.chassenature.com

By creating the Musée et le club de la Chasse et de la Nature within the François Sommer Foundation, patrons François and Jacqueline Sommer wanted to offer a unique experience of change of scenery. They wanted the arrangement of their collections of works of art, hunting weapons and naturalized animals to help revive one of the most prestigious buildings in the Marais, the Hotel de Guénégaud, by evoking the warm atmosphere of a collector’s residence. The original collections have been reorganized around themes such as the relationship of man to the wild animal and its evolution or the image of hunting. But contrary to a certain contemporary trend, the museum is above all a place of emotion. By juxtaposing contemporary art and scientific collections, this modern cabinet of curiosities questions the contours of a real or fantasized nature. Losing his bearings, the visitor is kept alert, as can be a hunter in the forest. Strange encounters occur along the way: a talking boar, a Chardin ca
