History of Mercy 1612: Queen Regent Marie de Medici decides on the construction of the Hospice Notre-Dame de La Pitié on the site of a large house with garden and an old game of disused palm, said of the Holy Trinity. This creation has a twofold objective: to help the poor through devotion and to empty the streets of Paris of its beggars. 1656: Louis XIV entrusts to the architect Liberal Bruant the construction of a hospital on the site of the small arsenal, where powder was manufactured for ammunition, nicknamed the «Salpêtrière». 1913: inauguration of the current Pitié by President Raymond Poincaré who will arrive by car; he is then the first President to move, other than as a crew on horseback. 1964: La Pitié and La Salpêtrière are united in a single hospital group.
