Come and discover the intercommunal museum of Nogent-sur-Marne, dedicated to the history of the banks of Marne near Paris. In the 18th century, the Boucles de la Marne were populated by farmers and winemakers. Parisian nobles and bourgeois had their country house built there. In the second half of the 19th century, the arrival of the railway encouraged the emergence of guinguettes on the banks of Marne. On Sundays, Parisians take hold of the banks of the river: guinguettes, rowing races, water contests with the spear, competitions of flowered or illuminated boats, swimming in the river. The banks of Marne thus become an emblematic place of the birth of mass leisure.
