Discover the cradle of particle physics by visiting the pioneer of particle accelerators, the Orsay Collision ring.
First collision ring built in Europe to observe the annihilation of electrons and positrons, the first storage ring on which synchrotron radiation lines were built and exploited, the Orsay collision ring (ACO) is included in the additional inventory of historical monuments.
It is also the pioneer of light sources in France, ancestor of modern synchrotron radiation sources SUN and ESRF. The world’s first free electron laser was built on ACO.
During the visit you will see the particle accelerator as it is preserved since its stop you will also see a replica of a line of light and many objects related to the history of particle physics or that of the physics of synchrotron radiation.
The tours are guided by researchers and engineers working or working in the scientific fields related to ACO.

The first electron-positron collisions in the world took place at Paris-Sud University in 1963\. Fifty years later, particle colliders are still at the forefront of basic research, as illustrated by the results of the large LHC collider at CERN. To celebrate this anniversary, the ACO Science Association and the Linear Accelerator Laboratory are opening their doors. On the program: visit of the Ring of Collisions of Orsay (ACO), included in the additional inventory of Historical Monuments; visit of the Museum of Light and Associated Matter; conferences and meetings with researchers; exposures to accelerators and cosmic rays. All in partnership with the cities of Orsay and Bures sur Yvette.
