The Hotel de Matignon opens its doors on the occasion of the European Heritage Days, placed this year under the sign of living heritage but also sport in the perspective of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Built in the early eighteenth century, in the heart of the faubourg Saint-Germain, the Hôtel de Matignon has been the official workplace of the Head of Government since 1935. In addition to beautiful reception rooms, it also has the largest private garden in the capital, an exceptional plant heritage.
Many activities await you throughout the weekend to enrich your visit to this unique heritage site. A dive into the archives will allow you to discover or rediscover the athletes received in Matignon since the 1960s, including many Olympic medallists. It will also be possible to learn a little more about the restoration operations carried out in Matignon in recent years on the building as well as on the interior decorations: several craftsmen (stonemasons, carpenters, parquet restorers, etc.) will be present to show you their expertise.
But many more surprises will mark your journey! Thanks to a partnership with the French Federation of vintage vehicles, lovers of vintage vehicles will have the pleasure of discovering in the courtyard of the hotel the models chosen by the Presidents of the Council and Prime Ministers from 1935 to today. And the children can leave with a small jar of honey from the apiaries of Matignon….
See you soon at the Hotel de Matignon!

À propos du lieu

Hôtel de Matignon - Résidence de la Première ministre
57 rue de Varenne 75007 Paris

  • Île-de-France
The Matignon hotel, located at 57 rue de Varenne, is the residence of the Prime Minister. It was built by architect Jean Courtonne between 1722 and 1725 and is an admirable example of a Regency style hotel. Part of the hotel’s rocaille decoration is still visible but important restorations conducted in the second half of the 19th century have enriched the original decorations. The hotel was the possession of various high figures (Princes of Monaco, Talleyrand, Duke and Duchess of Galliera) before being bought by the French State in 1922\. Since 1935, the Hotel de Matignon is the residence of the heads of government: Presidents of the Council under the Fourth Republic then Prime Ministers since the Fifth Republic.
