The Saint-Étienne church is located on the edge of an old Roman road that connected Meaux to Melun. The discovery in 1895 of plaster and stone sarcophagi suggests the existence of a very old building, perhaps from the 7th or 8th centuries. The sacristy, formerly the Chapel of the Lords of Touquin, is decorated with murals and funerary liters of the late seventeenth century.
The members of the Archaeological Society of Touquin will offer guided tours of the building or, at your choice, free visits.

St Stephen’s Church is located on an ancient Roman road from Meaux (Iatinum) to Melun (Melodunum). The building is dated to the 12th century, but its origins are still poorly known but are much older. Indeed the ancient discoveries, like the plaster and stone sarcophagi discovered in 1895, suggest the proximity of an older building, perhaps from the 7th or 8th centuries. As the texts and the re-employment of ancient elements make clear, the present monument has undergone countless changes. The most important transformations date from 1696: the whole is completely modified except the bell tower. It is under the dedication of St Stephen, the first martyr of Christianity - or protomartyr, who appears as the origin of the cult of the saints. The sacristy, formerly the Chapel of the Lords of Touquin, is decorated with murals and funerary liters from the end of the 17th century.
