It was first of all a theatre that was built in the first century.
A century later, the building was transformed into an amphitheatre, in order to give animal fights and perhaps gladiators. There are remains of the walls, of the prisons (service rooms on both sides of the arena and closed by mobile gates), and of a small sacellum (chapel).
The amphitheatre was abandoned at the end of the 3rd century. It is one of the smallest known in Gaul: the arena measures 23.6 meters long, for a 50 meters long facade wall. It could thus accommodate about 1500 spectators.
