Through this visit/ conference you will discover the exhibition-dossier «Eugène Delâtre, la belle épreuve» and the history of the print and its processes. Gérard Jouhet, member of the Association des amateurs d'Estampes, member of the Vieux Montmartre and collector, will present you the engraving techniques: dry point, soft varnish, etching…
Engraver and printer, Eugène Delâtre is one of the masters of etching in color. He is mainly known to amateurs for having collaborated with the greatest artists of his time: Picasso, Toulouse-Lautrec, Steinlen, Poulbot or Mary Cassatt. Settled in Montmartre like his father Auguste before him, he never ceased to represent the Butte and its evolution.
Through this exhibition-dossier, discover Eugène Delâtre’s Montmartre: the intimacy of his garden on rue Lepic, the boiling boulevards, the remains of the maquis before it disappears.
For the curious, it will be possible to visit, on Sunday 17 September between 14:30 and 17:30, part of the archives of Old Montmartre which are full of historical and unusual treasures. You will discover how the archives work and their conservation.

The Museum of Montmartre takes place in old houses of the Butte. These residences, surrounded by gardens, were the place of creation of many artists such as Auguste Renoir, Émile Bernard, Raoul Dufy, Charles Camoin, Suzanne Valadon or Maurice Utrillo. You will discover the permanent collections with a unique collection of paintings, posters and drawings that will make you relive the history of the Butte, the artistic effervescence of its workshops, and the atmosphere of its famous cabarets.
